Open the trunk of any modern car and you are greeted with an attractive, finished carpeted space. Keeping in line with bringing modern features to classic muscle, XV Motorsports has produced a high quality custom trunk kit that can be quickly and easily installed by your vehicle builder or yourself.
One of the features of our high end custom builds has been a fully finished, carpeted trunk. Until now, if you wanted to add this feature to your car it required days of work by a custom shop.
All the panels in the kit are made from cabinet grade 7-ply birch plywood chosen for its exceptional consistency, dimensional stability and strength. Panels are all CNC cut for precise fit and then covered in automotive grade carpet just like you find in the trunk of a modern car.
In designing the kit we’ve incorporated many features developed based upon our high end builds. These features are designed to work with the overall build of a car, ease of installation and owner convenience post installation.
To ease installation our Challenger kit requires only three small brackets that get attached to the car in existing mounting holes. The bottom panel is attached to one of the brackets with a single bolt via a captured nut on the panel itself. Aside from that bolt, there are no screws used to retain the panels, rather they all fit together are retained in place using steel brackets pre-installed on the panels and industrial grade 3M DuoLock. The bottom panel on the Challenger kit incorporates adjustable levelers on one side of the long span to support the panel where it is not directly in contact with the trunk floor.
The panels are designed to hold each other in place for a secure fit. After the bottom has been installed, front and rear panels are put in place and then the sides are fit. The sides are tight fit against front, rear and bottom panels and held in place via steel brackets and DuoLock on three sides resulting in an installation that secures all the panels.
The kit was designed to create hidden space behind the rear seat for mounting of stereo equipment, sub woofers or other electronics. Similarly, hidden space is created on the driver and passenger sides for a trunk mounted battery. These are features of our custom builds which hide wiring or equipment and also improve vehicle weight distribution from the performance and handling benefits of moving weight from the front to rear of the car.
When you need access to the battery, stereo equipment, wiring or anything else in the concealed spaces, the side panels can be easily removed via nylon pull-loops securely attached to the rear of the side panels. Since there are no screws holding the panels in place (or to lose) access and reinstallation is easy and efficient.
The result is a clean, functional and user friendly installation worthy of any custom build with features of a modern car, all at a fraction of the cost to have a custom kit made.
Kits are available in a wide range of available carpet colors and ship ready to install with brackets and carpet pre-installed.
Please Note – The first kit introduced is for the 1970-74 Dodge Challenger. Assuming there is sufficient demand for this kit we will release kits for other applications, the next being E-Body Cuda. The development work to make this into a production based product are significant. If you would like us to expedite the development of a kit for your application please contact us and let us know the application and that you want to be put on a list for purchase. If we get sufficient committed interest we will expedite development and introduction of that application. Cuda will be priced the same as Challenger, B-Body applications will likely be a bit more due to the larger trunk size.
