XV is pleased to offer our customers Odyssey Extreme Batteries. We’ve found ourselves using these batteries more and more and have been attracted to them for a number of reasons.
Odyssey is a subsidiary of EnerSys, a major supplier of batteries to the military, aerospace and industrial applications. Odyssey batteries carry over some of the same advanced design features found on the mission critical applications their parent company supports.
For owners of factory original or modified classics, resto-mods and high performance applications, there are a number of benefits to using these batteries including the following:
Vehicle Storage
Your classic or high performance ride probably isn’t your daily ride and often sits for long periods of time between use. An Odyssey battery will reliably start a car without a recharge for up to two years when there isn’t a draw on the battery.
Absorbed Glass Mat Design - Drycell
The batteries feature a Drycell design utilizing Absorbed Glass Mat “AGM”, eliminating external leakage or corrosion. Additionally, the battery uses compressed AGM plate separators for extreme vibration resistance.
Flat Plate Design
Compared to a spiral wound battery, the flat plate design in the Odyssey batteries have 15% more surface area in the case by eliminating the dead space between the cylinders. This allows the battery to have more power and 40% more reserve capacity. Only virgin lead that is 99.99% pure lead is used to make the plates in these batteries.
Corrosion Free Connections
The batteries feature and alloy coated brass terminals designed to offers both high conductivity and corrosion free connections.
Sealed Design
Gases are recycled internally during use and recharging, with a safety relief valve per cell. This also allows the battery to be mounted in almost any position.
Slow End of Life
Battery slowly loses power at the end of its life, no catastrophic failure typical of conventional batteries.
Totally Maintenance Free
Drycell design never requires adding water.
XV is offering a 1500 series Odyssey battery to directly bolt into your classic application. This battery features 880 cold cranking amps and dual terminals – studs on top and 3/8” side receptacles.
We prefer the dual terminal feature as it provides the most flexibility and a clean way to tap a direct power source for anything you want to add to your ride down the road, whether the battery is mounted under the hood or remotely in the trunk.
